PSP News - PSP closes in on 3DS in Japan - Eurogamer.net

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

The PSP has narrowly missed retaking the weekly Japanese hardware crown just a month after the launch of the 3DS. According to the latest Media Create data, as posted on Andriasang , the PSP sold 50,479 units last week compared to 50,710 3DS purchases. Supply issues are not to blame for the slump - the platform holder confirmed the system was in stock in Japanese stores when contacted by Eurogamer for clarification. UK and US sales numbers for the 3DS aren’t in yet, although Nintendo has claimed the new portable is its fastest selling handheld ever . Having played a 3DS now its good but not THAT good - whether they like it or not Nintendo are gonna have to accept software counts - nevermind wiimotes and 3D. Japan is different from other places i think , more people use mobile and psp handheld like devices there, and monster hunter is big game there, so im sure many have psp there. read more

Monday, March 28th, 2011

Twenty-six year old Takanori Osanai didn’t have a job. Osanai introduced himself as a writer at a fictional comic magazine, presenting a business card to the group of kids. Osanai told the kid that he’d like the boy to play a brand new PSP gaming experience, but needed to borrow the sixth grader’s portable. The kid handed over his machine, and Osanai supposedly made off with the machine. According to reports of 5 or 6 similar swindles occurred in Tokyo from this past January.
