Sony still hasn’t officially announced or dated (or named) the PSP 2, but at this point, any doubts that such an announcement will be coming sometime in the near future can just about be erased. According to Develop , “multiple industry sources” have told them that Sony has sent out PSP 2 development kits across the industry in an attempt to already begin building up a “significant launch window line-up” for the handheld. Specific sources were kept anonymous, but the amount of developers telling Develop over the past two months that they’ve received a dev kit “gives the impression” that Sony is already casting a wide net. A previous rumor suggested that developers had been shown the new handheld (which reportedly includes touch controls on the back of the unit), but now it appears both in-house and third-party developers are getting one-on-one time to see what the hardware in Sony’s new handheld can actually do. Rumor has also previously pegged the PSP 2’s release for some time near the end of 2011, but of course, any release details have yet to be announced by Sony. read more
