That word apparently comes from some “sources close to PSP development” that have spoken to PC World’s Game On blog, who seem to also be suggesting that the Memory Sticks would effectively replace UMDs as a game delivery format, and not simply be used for downloaded games and whatnot. Same again for DVD and HD-DVD - Blu-ray was created with the involvement of a large number of companies, one of which was Sony, while HD-DVD was created primarly by Toshiba with the involvment of a much smaller number of companies, but for some reason Sony haters consider HD-DVD to be an open and friendly format while Blu-ray is considered an evil proprierty format. Nintendo’s storage devices of choice include SD for the Wii and game cartridges for the DS, which are fine because the storage devices on the DS were never meant to hold music or video. Sony did well with the PS3 and virtualizing playstation memory cards for PSOne/PS2 games, but god knows they aren’t going to learn anything in the handheld market for a long time. read more
