Rumor: PSP To Be Used As Console Game Recording Device?- About: General

At E3 2006, Sony brass Kaz Hirai showed F1 Championship Edition running off a PSP as a rearview mirror that could be placed next to your PS3 set-up. Gimmicky, sure, but one of many ways Sony has been trying to link portable and home console. In what appears to be a recent Sony survey, the company apparently asked users several questions and to rate their answers on a scale of 1 - 6 with 1 being “Not Appealing” and 6 being “Very Appealing. Transfer media (music/pictures/video) wirelessly from the console to the device (broadcast television, new levels for games). Use the device WHILE PLAYING the console game as an addition weapon/utility to help the gameplay (second player option, radar for incoming enemies, etc. Record console gameplay for display on the device (showing off your high scores ore “cool moves” to friends). read more

More Details On Sony Sales Slump: PS2, PSP, PS3 Sales All Down- General

And few places are feeling it as bad as Sony, who have tonight announced a drop in games unit revenue, hardware sales and software sales. As you can see in the graph above, PS2 sales are down 52% from this time last year. Things aren’t looking much rosier on the software front, with PS2 sales down 51% and PSP game sales down 15%. The PS3, well, it’s a lone bright spot, with game sales are up 57% (which along with cost reductions on the hardware contributed to the division staying out of the red), though that wasn’t enough to stop a decline in overall sales. In terms of cash intake, the game division’s sales fell from ¥581 billion in 2007 to ¥393 billion in 2008, falling hardware and software sales not helped by fluctuations in the value of the Yen against the Dollar and Euro. read more
