Topic: General - PSP-3000 scanlines a hardware feature; no fix planned

Sony Japan has responded to criticisms about visible scanlines on the new PSP-3000 systems. SCEI says that the “PSP-3000 has a new LCD device with vastly improved picture quality, achieving a more natural and vivid picture than older models. Installed with this new LCD device, PSP-3000 offers more natural and vibrant colors on its screen, but the scan lines have come out to be more visible as a result of improving response time to alleviate the afterimages on PSP-3000. I’ve got multiple games where the plastic protective case has seperated from the clear disc viewing window, which rubs on the disc preventing it from spinning while in my PSP. I’ve been one of the most strident supporters of this system but damned if I’ll pay for an inferior screen with visible scanline doubling. read more

Users report screen issues with PSP Brite, Sony investigating- General

Well, these people seem to think the sunlight performance wasn’t up to the promised performance. I love the added features of the PSP-2000 (especially video out) but if Sony had stayed with the PSP-1000 I’d still be happy. Now they’ve gone down this slippery slope of doing annual hardware revisions, each cheaper & worse than the previous build.
