Back before the franchise took a turn for the worse with Till the End of Time , Star Ocean became a popular series when Star Ocean 2 rocked the booming RPG genre on the original PlayStation. With 60 hours of gameplay, over 80 endings, and a strong 2D art style with then-impressive 3D combat, Star Ocean 2 was easily among the best JRPGs found on the PS. The upgrades include some new, stylish anime cut-scenes for the game’s main story sequences, a truckload of voice acting work, some additional private action story sequences, and some new graphical flavor including redrawn character avatars. Star Ocean 2 focuses on Claude Kenny, son of the first great Human Fleet commander, who finds himself stranded on a remote planet without the technological advances of his own race but the help from an intelligent life that embraces him as he searches for a way home. As far as JRPGs go, Star Ocean 2 was one of the many classics from the PSX age that stood out because of its unique battle system, strong array of characters, and unprecedented replay value. Sure, we long for the mythical day when Sony releases some software that lets us pop in PSX discs and rip the games right to our PSP, but for the time being, this caliber of port from the PSX era is worth every last cent. read more
