I’ve been playing a lot of the original lately, and that game just begged for a sequel to temper and focus its overwhelming myriad of ideas, some of which worked excellently, while others were thoroughly execrable. It’s a freaking crossover fighting game, it doesn’t need five-minute cutscenes packed with insipid dialogue to be enjoyable. The problem arises because past Square characters (good) are given dialog by current Square Enix writers (bad). Dissidia itself was fun (provided you had the patience to overcome its gratuitously steep learning curve) but every time one of the characters spoke they died a little bit in my heart.
